Our Location

Our offices and plant are located in Strahan, Tasmania.

We acknowledge and pay respects to Toogee peoples, Elders and Country whose land we come together to learn, share and grow. I also acknowledge that the people of this land maintain and share knowledge through an oral tradition that has been practiced for generations.

This location is ideal for its ease of access with road connections, air travel by light aircraft e.g. helicopters or seaplanes, and of course sea travel. Being on the west coast of Tasmania provides Kelpics with an abundant population of pre-existing seaweed and ease of planting thus expanding both the kelp forests as well as our production capacity.

The area is also home to many local farmers and fishermen as well as a number of national parks and regional reserves. Keeping this in mind, we take all necessary precautions with our facilities and offices to ensure that the by-products produced don’t negatively impact the surrounding environment. The last thing we want to do is damage the local ecosystems and farms.

We aim to maintain a healthy and beneficial relationship with the locals wherein we provide them access to our products at discounted prices to encourage positive relations as well as helping them to move away from the harmful plastics used in their daily work.

Joining with the efforts of the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) we plan to use our resources to help repopulate the kelp forests of Tasmania with new kelp that survives in warmer waters as over 95% of kelp forests in Tasmania have been lost from rising sea temperatures.

This project is of great importance to us in our mission to curb the damage caused to the environment by humans. Kelp forests act like underwater trees in the sense that they absorb the carbon dioxide in the environment and therefore, our mission to replant the kelp forests of Tasmania will have a large impact on global warming.
